ALEXANDRIA, VA. - Legendary entertainer Pat Boone, spokesman for the national non-partisan senior citizen group the 60 Plus Association, today announced that South Carolina GOP South Carolina Lt. Governor candidate Henry McMaster received the group's Honorary Guardian of Seniors’ Rights award.

In a statement released by 60 Plus, Boone remarked, “I'm still singing at concerts, but today I'm singing the praises of Henry McMaster. South Carolina seniors can depend on Henry McMaster." Boone, 80, and his wife of 60 years, Shirley, reside in Beverly Hills, California.

Boone is familiar to audiences as a star of music, film and television. Boone has had 38 top-ten hits since his recording career began in the 1950s, and, according to Billboard magazine, still holds the record for the most consecutive weeks (220) on the charts by any performer.

Chairman Jim Martin, who founded 60 Plus in 1992, added, "Henry McMaster is an exceptional public servant who cares deeply about the elderly and the extraordinary challenges they face. As Lt. Governor he will help set an agenda that protects the quality of life and well-being of South Carolina seniors citizens and their families.

"Most important, Henry McMaster is a man of honesty and integrity who has earned the trust of seniors through his many fights on their behalf.  On behalf of the more than 59,000 seniors that 60 Plus counts on for support in the Palmetto state, I can say that seniors will have no finer friend in Columbia than Henry McMaster. "

The Association’s Guardian award is presented to Democrats and Republicans based on their “senior friendly” voting records. The Honorary award is based on candidates' public positions on issues of importance to seniors.  Previous South Carolina GOP recipients include Governor Nikki Haley and U.S. Senators Lindsay Graham and Tim Scott.  Democrat recipients include New Mexico Senator Jeff Bingaman and Rep. Sanford Bishop of Georgia.
