McMaster Issues Statement on Senior Hunger Day Resolution
For Immediate Release
Contact: Jeff Taillon @ 803-546-3787
COLUMBIA, SC — Henry McMaster, a candidate for South Carolina Lt. Governor, on Wednesday issued the following statement on the concurrent resolution recognizing May 9 as "Senior Hunger Day":
"I thank Lt. Governor McConnell, Representative Hamilton, the AARP and all those involved for their leadership on this important issue.
"It is a sobering reality that our state ranks near the bottom nationally in dealing with senior-adult hunger. As the Grey Tsunami bears down on South Carolina, we must continue to do better. That means coming up with creative ways to assist our state's seniors without further impacting the taxpayers' bottom line.
"Senior Hunger Day is not only an opportunity for us to collect and deliver food to disadvantaged seniors, but it is a challenge to us all to chip in what we can to help those in need.
"By pooling resources from the business community, nonprofits, faith-based organizations and others, we can address this issue in a fiscally responsible and effective manner.
"I know South Carolina is full of gracious people willing to help their neighbors and I believe in the people of this state. Peggy and I will be leaving non-perishable food next to our mailbox on May 9 and will encourage our family and friends to do the same."
